Terrarium Papercut Project!

You may have seen the papercutting craze that has been going on with hand cut cards and invitations.  Thankfully we have the Silhouette Cameo to do our cutting!!

A friend of mine creates awesome terrariums and you can check them out at Don't Throw Stones.
Mel is attending a big garden show in our area and I just wanted to make her a little card to wish her the best!

The shape I have used is # 65928 Terrarium Papercut from the Silhouette Store, and the sentiment is just a banner shape with the text typed into it.  Easy right?

I love that we can make such quick and simple personalised cards or gifts when something special is happening in our friends or families lives!!

Anyway, Enjoy your everyday!

Teachers Pencil!

School has been back for a while now we are in our 2nd term! I had been meaning to make this gift for my son's kinder teacher at the start of the year LOL!  Well at least I have made it before the end of the year!

These timber pencil's are available to purchase in our online store here.

To start with I downloaded a pencil file in the silhouette store so that I could use it for a stencil at the tip to make the shape that a pencil has when it is sharpened.  The shape I used is below.

I then broke the shape apart so that I could just cut out the pencil tip which I  adhered and then painted the body of the pencil with 2 coats of acrylic paint.  I always remove my stencils while the paint is still wet, that way the paint doesn't get stuck to the paper stencil and chip away if you wait for the paint to dry.

I used the Silhouette Double sided adhesive sheets and stuck one side to a scrap of pink cardboard and then put this in the end of the pencil for the eraser.  I trimmed close to the edge with my scissors, then with a nail file I filed the remaining overlapping cardboard away.  I love this technique as it gives you a fantastically neat edge.

Using the Silhouette Cameo I made a vinyl cutout of our Teachers name, the font I have used is Sweetheart Script.  I have welded the letters together to make them join nicely.

Then using transfer tape pick up your lettering and position on the pencil.  Give it a good rub over with the scraper tool then carefully lift the transfer tape away.

To finish off I have added a piece of metal trim where the eraser and pencil join, and glued some ribbon on the back to hang it with using E6000 glue.

Hope you liked our project today!

Australia Day Card

I was inspired earlier in the week by the 4th of July cards that I saw on Pinterest.  With Australia Day coming up I thought it was the perfect time to pull out all of my blue and red supplies and have a go!

There are not many files available in the Silhouette store in the Australian Theme, and they missed Tasmania off the map :(  But with a bit of un-grouping and rearranging I was able to get a flag that I was looking for.

I used the outline shape of the American flag, and the inside detail of the Australian Flag to create the image you can see on the front of the card cut from Sticky Barc.

We will be stocking Sticky Barc very soon, it is a very thin veneer wood that has an adhesive back. Yes it is real wood.  I am pretty sure it will make your blade blunt pretty quickly, but for special projects I will risk it!

Hope this inspires you to get creating!

Kraft Cardstock and Ink

I LOVE KRAFT CARDSTOCK..............but it is very absorbent which can leave you with fuzzy stamped images if you use the wrong ink.
In the image below I have stamped my sentiment with a dye based on the top and Stazon a solvent based ink on the bottom.
As you can see the top sentiment has bled into the cardstock, but the Stazon ink has left a crisp image.
Just a little tip for you all!

Marker Holder and a Glue Pen?

Today I am trying out an idea I have had for a while, and that is to use a Glue Pen in a marker holder and use embossing powder with it.

The pen I have used is the Quickie Glue pen, mainly because it has a thin barrel like a pen, and it fits easily into the holder.

I chose an easy design as I wanted the drawing part to be fast so the glue didn't dry!

This design is available in the Silhouette online store # 48633.  Once the Cameo has finished quickly pour your embossing powder over the glue and tap off the excess. Then simply melt with your heat gun.

The result is pretty good. I have used kraft cardstock which is very absorbent.  A less absorbent cardstock will give a better result as the glue sit on the top of the cardstock more instead of soaking in.

There are many other things that you could use this technique with such as glitter and gold/silver leaf.

If you would like to purchase one of these glue pens, they are available in our online store here.

Thanks for stopping by today
